18th century Choir Book 1798
It is in very good condition for a 227 year-old butt is full of hymns and I think information on the choirs cover is a heavy leather that is from the 18th century The text is from the title page of a book titled "Directorium Chori ad Usum Fratrum Excalceatorum S. P. N. Augustini Portugalliae," printed in Lisbon in 1798. It is a directory for the choir of the Discalced Friars of the Order of Saint Augustine in Portugal, including solemn and private processions and blessings, prayers approved for use, and other material for the Roman Office and the Order. The book was corrected by Friar Ferdinando a Conception, a student and cantor in the Convent of Our Lady of the Conception of Monte Oliveti, commonly called Grilo, and is a more complete and revised edition. The phrase "Officiis Sacris solers reverenter adesto, Nadab plectentem disce timere Deum" translates to "Be diligent and reverent in attending to sacred offices; learn to fear God from Nadab being struck down."
